Sarah's Trunk

“What was daily life like in the frontier community?”

With this essential question in mind, Heritage Circle supplements school curricula by sponsoring child-friendly, hands-on programs of historical interest to area students.  Educator-developed presentations focus on grade-level curricula and local history, incorporating a Power Point presentation and question-and-answer techniques, in order to stretch young minds’ imaginations and reasoning abilities.

Using the story of Joseph and Sarah Pound’s journey to Texas from Mississippi, their settling in Hays’ County, and life on the frontier, presenters touch on topics of history, geography, and science.  Children are able to handle true artifacts, similar to the ones at the Dr. Joseph Pound Farmstead, and even use some of the implements, such as cotton cards.

Want to taste fresh, homemade butter?  Heritage Circle presenters finish the presentation with a taste of frontier life!

We recommend Sarah’s Trunk presentations before taking children to the Dr. Joseph Pound Historical Farmstead in order to get the most out of the historical experience.  To make reservations for Sarah’s Trunk, please contact heritagecircle@verizon.net.
